Carrefour and La Poste launch a new model of pedestrian drive

Press release 26 May 2021

Carrefour and La Poste, via its subsidiary Pickup, have entered into a national partnership to launch a new commercial model of pedestrian drive, under the name "Pickup drive", to enable customers to find several local services in a single location: food shopping, parcel collection and delivery. The first Pickup drive opens in Paris in the 19th arrondissement on Wednesday 26 May 2021.

Carrefour has signed an agreement with Pickup to develop its network of collection points dedicated to food shopping in France. Already a pioneer in the pedestrian drive since the launch of this service in 2018, Carrefour now has around 100 pedestrian drives in France.

Pickup, France's number one pick-up network, has been offering out-of-home parcel pick-up and drop-off for more than 20 years, and recently inaugurated its first own contact points, helping to absorb the continuous increase in parcel volumes.

The combination of the two activities has given rise to a new concept: the Pickup drive. Set up in the city centres of major conurbations, it enables everyone to collect all their food and non-food deliveries from a single local location.

On 26 May 2021, Carrefour will install its first pedestrian drive in a Pickup drive, located at 30 rue de Lorraine, in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, which will be open 6 days a week.

A service in major French cities

Following the launch of this first joint site on 26 May, several dozen other sites will soon open in major French cities, based on the same model combining Carrefour's Pedestrian Drive service with Pickup's services.

A partnership focused on customer satisfaction

Carrefour customers will be able to pick up their groceries ordered on Carrefour.fr or via the Carrefour app on the same day they order. Customers will have up to 15,000 items at their fingertips, covering all their daily shopping needs: fruit and vegetables, fresh products, frozen foods, organic and veggie products, and hygiene and cleaning products. Every week, they will find numerous promotional offers and will be able to benefit from the advantages of the Carrefour loyalty programme.

Customers will also be able to collect or return their e-commerce parcels (Colissimo, Chronopost, DPD France) ordered from one of the 8,000 e-commerce sites offering the Pickup out-of-home delivery solution (standard parcels and bulky parcels as part of the Relais maxi Pickup service). They will also be able to drop off their Shop2Shop by Chronopost and their e-commerce returns.

In this way, La Poste and Carrefour have joined forces to make these collection points essential services in each neighbourhood, making daily life easier. These locations respond to the changing consumption patterns of both Carrefour and Le Groupe La Poste customers: increasingly digital, more convenient and closer to home.

"Carrefour is delighted to enter into this partnership with Pickup, which will enable us to step up our territorial coverage of our Pedestrian Drive service, and to benefit from Pickup's expertise in managing the collection of e-commerce orders in town centres."

Elodie Perthuisot, Executive Director E-commerce, Data and Digital Transformation, Carrefour Group

"It is a real pleasure for Pickup to work with Carrefour for the launch of this innovative drive concept. Our shared experience and ambition to deliver a quality customer experience is what drives us. With the Pickup drive, we make things easier for the customer by allowing them to collect all their online purchases, food and non-food, right in front of their home."

Paul-Ambroise Archambeaud, Chairman of Pickup
