DPD Estonia buys 25 new electric vans and makes parcel delivery in ten Estonian cities completely electric
Press release 27 June 2024
DPD Estonia will purchase 25 new electric vans. With this, the fleet of DPD Estonia electric vans will increase even further - to 73 electric vans. By the end of next year, we will transport parcels in ten Estonian cities only with electric vans.
„Electric vans have proven their efficiency. By 2040, DPD Estonia plans to transport with a fully electrified van fleet and a fleet of trucks running on alternative fuels. Despite the twists and turns of the economy in recent years, we have not given up on our goals and investments in sustainable business - we will continue with them even when there are crisis years,“,
confirms Remo Kirss, CEO of DPD Estonia.
25 new vans will be put into use by DPD Estonia in the second half of the year. DPD Estonia mostly reduces its carbon emissions with the help of new electric vans in Tallinn, but new vans can also be seen on the streets of Tartu, Pärnu, Jõhvi, Narva, Viljandi, Rakvere, Kuressaare, Haapsalu and Kohtla-Järve. In the listed cities, they will reach a fully electrified parcel delivery service by the end of 2025.
Today, DPD Estonia has 57 charging points for electric vans across the country, which are located at sorting centers. With this large investment, the prerequisites have been created for the next acquisition of electric vans in order to phase out diesel vans.
The CEO of DPD Estonia considers that the investment and ongoing maintenance of electric vans should remain at most in the same order of magnitude as diesel vans.
"To achieve this, you need to be a smart user. Our own charging network is built into our business model as a prerequisite for this. We also built a power substation at the Jüri sorting center last year. Based on the experience so far, it can be said that the life of electric vans is long and can be further extended if used properly. The increasing price of diesel vans and the car tax are taking on fewer and fewer commercial arguments why not to electrify the company's vehicle fleet,"
Kirss assesses.
The electric vans run entirely on sustainable energy - all the remaining electricity, which is missing from DPD Estonia's own energy production, is purchased as energy guaranteed by sustainable certificates. The CEO of DPD Estonia notes that in addition to low carbon emissions, the introduction of electric vans will also reduce noise pollution.
Citroën's e-Jumpers, which are the first in DPD Estonia's fleet, make up the largest proportion of electric van procurement. The new electric vans are estimated to travel 300 kilometers on a single charge. DPD Estonia's charging network also uses fast chargers, which allow an empty electric van to be fully charged again in an average of up to two hours.
