DPD Estonia starts cooperation with Parcelsea personal parcel machines

Press release 22 March 2021

22 March 2021 - DPD Estonia and the Estonian smart mailbox developer and manufacturer Parcelsea signed a cooperation agreement for DPD to also service the Parcelsea personal parcel machines. By the end of the year, Parcelsea aims to install at least 1,000 personal smart mailboxes across Estonia.

The Parcelsea smart mailbox is a personal parcel machine developed in Estonia that has an innovative and eye-catching design. The smart mailbox is made of three different size sections and fits various package sizes, letters and up to five grocery bags simultaneously.

"The cooperation will definitely be exciting, because Parcelsea solution is innovative, the developers are very open-minded and ambitious and the smart mailbox itself is extremely convenient for our couriers," said Remo Kirss, CEO of DPD Estonia. "DPD aims to continue to offer the most convenient delivery solution and Parcelsea complements this option very well."

Kirss explained that a personal parcel machine helps to cope with higher parcel volumes, especially due to the Coronavirus.

"A courier can bring a package of the required size quickly and contactless to the customers personal smart mailbox and neither party has to worry about whether the customer is at home or not. The “always open” smart mailbox also helps to save the environment, because the courier does not have to come back later if the person was not at home," said Kirss.

Parcelsea partner Tanel Raun added that he is particularly pleased with the cooperation because DPD values, for example environmental sustainability, also coincide perfectly with the manufacturer of smart mailboxes.

"We also plan to work closely together on development. We will receive valuable feedback from couriers on how to make the product even more convenient and maintain all high standards of data transmission. Of course, it is also important that DPD has the best courier network coverage across Estonia," explained Raun.

Pre-ordering Parcelsea personal parcel machines has exceeded all expectations and by the end of the year the goal is to reach at least 1,000 operational smart mailboxes across Estonia.

“In April, we will start fulfilling pre-orders for a hundred customers. Orders have come from all over Estonia. Most of them are from Harju County, but Pärnu County, Tartu County and Lääne County are also strongly represented," Raun said.

Most smart mailboxes have been ordered in larger cities and their surrounding areas. Starting with this spring parcels can also be sent out using the same smart mailboxes. This is a particularly convenient solution when returning products.
