DPD Latvia creates the largest fleet of electric vehicles in Latvia

Press release 13 December 2021

International parcel delivery company DPD Latvia, as part of its brand sustainability programme, has added 10 new electric delivery vehicles to its fleet. Currently DPD Latvia has 27 Volkswagen e-Crafter electric vehicles in its fleet, making it the largest fleet of electric vehicles in Latvia for environmentally friendly parcel deliveries. According to the company's sustainability development programme until 2025, DPD Latvia plans to ensure 100% emission-neutral parcel delivery in Riga and the Baltic region. The total investment in the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and the purchase of 10 new fully electric vehicles is around € 400,000.

Jānis Grants, Chairman of the Board of DPD Latvia, points out that as the volume of shipments grows, the volume of transport deliveries both to the DPD Pickup parcel locker network and to courier deliveries throughout Latvia is growing rapidly; therefore, the development of an environmentally friendly fleet for shipment deliveries is one of the current priorities in the company's development. DPD Latvia's goal is to primarily provide emission-neutral parcel delivery in the urban areas of Riga and the Baltic Sea Region, gradually expanding to other parts of Latvia.

“As a socially responsible company, we are committed to implementing environmentally friendly solutions in our daily work and ensuring the delivery of our fast-growing parcel volumes. As people's e-shopping habits change, parcel delivery volumes are gradually increasing, but with the festive season approaching, they are growing much faster. At the beginning of December, the volume of shipments in the DPD Latvia network increased by 73%, but it is likely to increase as the festive season approaches. To ensure the greener delivery of our growing parcel volumes, we have expanded the number of electric vehicles, creating the largest and greenest parcel delivery fleet in Latvia. So our customers can rest assured that their shipments will be delivered with a significant reduction in air pollution and environmental impact, so we can all live in a greener world,”

explains Jānis Grants.

DPD Latvia implements an environmental sustainability development programme in its core business, which provides for the introduction of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solutions in the company's day-to-day operations and service provision. Currently, DPD Latvia's fleet of electric vehicles consists of 27 Volkswagen e-Crafter all-electric, CO2 emission-free commercial vehicles, especially suited for courier, express and parcel delivery services. Thanks to zero CO2 emissions and “green energy” resources during charging, DPD Latvia is already able to ensure the emission-neutral delivery of parcels in Riga and the Baltic Sea Region, minimising air pollution during the delivery process.

In order to ensure the processing and timely delivery of the growing volumes of packages, DPD Latvia is implementing its most ambitious investment project over the past few years in the gradual expansion and modernisation of the DPD Latvia network infrastructure. Currently DPD Latvia delivers parcels through 210 self-service DPD Pickup parcel lockers across Latvia, but 41 new parcel lockers are still in the process of being coordinated - both in locations where DPD Latvia services are already available and in new territories. In addition, the existing DPD Pickup parcel lockers are being expanded with additional parcel compartments where the capacity of the existing parcel lockers is currently exceeded.
