DPD Latvia, leader in the courier service segment in Latvia
Press release 27 December 2021
The international parcel delivery company DPD Latvia ranks 1st as the largest courier service in Latvia on the annual list of Top 500 companies (the list is created by the newspaper Dienas Bizness). And it also ranks 17th among the top logistics companies in delivery business.
Due to the rapid development of e-commerce during the pandemic, in 2020 DPD Latvia managed to significantly grow its turnover and to strengthen its leading position in courier business both for domestic and international deliveries. Last year the turnover increased by more than 3.5 million euro or by 17.7%, thus increasing the growth rate of previous years.
Jānis Grants, the Chairman of the Board of DPD Latvia indicates that being among the leading companies is only logical :
“The pandemic has radically changed the routine of people: the limitations imposed on socialising, including on-site shopping, resulted in a significant increase in the demand for courier delivery services. People appreciate the benefits and amenities of e-commerce. Those who have tried the services provided by e-commerce and for whom this experience has been successful opt for ever frequent online shopping. Speaking of the growth in turnover of DPD Latvia, we see that the pace of growth from 2020 is still ongoing, and individuals increasingly choose express delivery or parcel network services. It is fast, convenient and cost-efficient!”
DPD Latvia also points out that during the pandemic the number of business clients has increased by 33% and new partnerships have been established.
“Business habits have also changed – previously business development meant opening new stores in shopping centres, while last year showed that much more attention was paid to establishing online presence. This considerably increased the number of deliveries, which opened more business opportunities for cooperation in delivery segment. In order to meet the growing demand, we have implemented an ambitious investment programme, gradually extending both the DPD Latvia Pickup parcel network, and investing in upgrading the capacity of sorting machines, as well as increasing the number of couriers, thus creating new jobs during the crisis,”
explains J. Grants.
When thinking of the next development steps, Mr. Grants points out that demand for delivery and courier services will continue to grow in the coming years and there will be fierce competition among the large logistics companies.
“Current trends are likely to remain. Given the rapid technological breakthrough of e-commerce and the experience gained by citizens in using e-services, I am quite sure we will not return to the lives we had before. Experience of foreign colleagues shows that the amount of migration from the warehouse to the end recipient continues to increase. We estimate that the total volume of deliveries this year in Latvia will exceed 67%, and there is no sign that it will drop in the near future. We have stepped into a new era and there is no turning back,”
said J. Grants.
This year DPD Latvia managed to climb up on the Top 500 of the largest companies in Latvia, ranking 353rd in 2020, which is almost 100 positions higher than in 2019, when DPD Latvija ranked 447th among the largest companies in Latvia.
