DPD Poland launches its new sorting depot in Zgierz near Łódź
Press release 20 September 2023
DPD Poland has launched a new logistics facility in Zgierz, Łódzkie Voivodship, a sorting depot, that represents the latest technology in the logistics industry. Built to a BREEAM green standard, the facility is amongst the most advanced of its kind in Poland.
New facility to address e-commerce needs
The new logistics facility of DPD Poland comprises more than 5,600 sqm of warehouse space and 600 sqm of office space. It is equipped with an automatic sorter from BEUMER Group Poland with a capacity of 6,000 parcels per hour, 6 loading and 5 unloading conveyors from Caljan, an additional courier unloading line and 61 courier gates. To streamline the logistics process, the facility also has 16 gates for loading and unloading line heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). The Zgierz facility (LD1) covers the Zgierski County, Łęczycki County, Poddębicki County, Brzeziński County, part of Pabianicki County, part of Łódzki Wschodni County, the northern and western parts of Łódź. The facility will operate and serve a total population of 600,000 people.
The new facility in Zgierz is set to replace the current site in Lućmierz. However, the former facility will serve as a sub-sorting depot to facilitate the logistics procedures of the entire DPD Poland.
“We are continuously investing in our logistics infrastructure and process improvements to meet the needs of our customers. The new facility will operate in the Łódź market, ensuring the highest quality of DPD Poland’s services, as well as serving e-commerce logistics due to its proximity to the warehouses of online shops. The new facility, which incorporates the latest market-available technology, will ensure the highest operational efficiency not only for the region, but also for the entire country, serving as a sub-sorting depot,”
commented Maciej Glowacki, Operations Director, Member of the Board of DPD Poland
“The new facility represents an important leap towards a superior experience for our institutional and retail customers. It combines three important features related to the essence of our business: speed, flexibility and proximity,”
adds Łukasz Zembowicz, Sales and Marketing Director, Member of the Board of DPD Poland.
Technology at the service of customers
“We are moving to the new facility due to the increasing volume of business and the expansion of international services. The current site in Lućmierz has reached its capacity limit, with no courier gates and only HGV gates. Also, the sorter we have in Lućmierz does not support the processing of foil envelopes, and due to the logistics warehouse service in Stryków, which mainly serves e-commerce customers, a large proportion of our parcels are orders packed in foil envelopes. The new sorter in Zgierz will enable us to sort a wider variety of parcels, thus increasing the volume of both domestic and international trade,”
adds Tomasz Kijak, Branch Manager of DPD Poland in Zgierz.
The new facility will provide direct and indirect employment for more than 250 employees and partners of DPD Poland.
Sustainable logistics standard
The Zgierz facility has been designed and built in accordance with BREEAM certification criteria. Additionally, the facility will feature a photovoltaic system and will be landscaped with flower meadows to encourage biodiversity.
Furthermore, a fleet of low-emission vehicles will transport parcels within the new facility. It will also include a network of fast chargers for 20 electric cars.
