DPD‘s Pickup parcelshops newly at Czech Post branches – former competitors join forces
Press release 12 November 2024
Czech Post and DPD Czech Republic, part of the largest European parcel delivery network Geopost, have started to cooperate on the delivery of parcels. From November 11, DPD‘s customers, who typically order from e-shops, can now also have their parcel sent to Czech Post branches for pick-up. They will therefore also serve as DPD‘s Pickup points. As of November 11, this option will be introduced at 56 post offices, and by the end of the year at more than 850 branches. The testing of cooperation will last until the middle of next year and in the case of successful cooperation it will be extended to the entire network of the Czech Post, i.e. to almost 3,000 branches. With this step, Czech Post continues to expand its open infrastructure. After handling the digital agendas of the Labor Office, a pilot project with the logistics company DPD is now starting.
"There are 2,900 branches available for our clients throughout the Czech Republic. Due to the declining interest in traditional postal services, we are ready to offer our free capacities to other companies or state institutions. The branch network in which we have integrated DPD is another option where customers of our new business partner can pick-up their parcels. Especially in the pre-Christmas period, which is the peak of the season for every logistics company, every additional pickup point is welcome,"
says Martina Ivanová, Director of the Czech Post branch network.
"Cooperation between DPD and the Czech Post might have seemed unimaginable in the past, but at the present moment it really makes sense to us. Parcelshops are the second most popular type of delivery used by Czechs when shopping online, after home delivery. In addition, not everywhere makes sense to use self-service lockers, which have been so popular lately. Thanks to the combination of our services, the DPD Pickup network will increase significantly, even in smaller towns and villages, where Pickup points will be significantly more accessible even before the Christmas season, even in locations where the mentioned lockers are not available. A number of residents will now have another opportunity to pick up a parcel directly at their place of residence, not only during the hectic pre-Christmas period,"
explains Miloš Malaník, CEO of DPD Czech Republic.
In the Czech Republic, DPD already operates over 6,000 Pickup points and self-service lockers, which are part of the pan-European network of Geopost. Thanks to it, DPD‘s customers can use one of the Europe's largest networks of more than 110,000 Pickup parcelshops and lockers.
