DPD opens a new branch in Bratislava. It can process up to 10,000 parcels per hour
Press release 5 November 2021
The transport capacity of the courier company DPD in Slovakia will be significantly increased thanks to the new warehouses that have been built in the Pharos locality, close to Bratislava Airport. The new depot will use the most modern sorting technologies and is already prepared to deliver the consignments by electric vehicles. For DPD, this is the largest investment into the transmission network in Slovakia up to date.
The new depot was built on the area of 27,933 m2, while the buildings themselves occupy 7,000 m2. The amount of the investment reached 20 million euros.
"This is DPD's largest investment to date in Slovakia. Demand for courier services is growing rapidly and thanks to cutting-edge technologies and higher capacity we can now work more efficiently and provide even better support to our customers," says Peter Pavuk, general director of DPD in Slovakia.
The new premises will serve as a delivery depot for the area of Bratislava, but also as a regional sorting centre for the whole Slovakia. Thanks to modern technologies and a larger number of gates, it will fully replace and supplement the capacities of the original DPD branch in Bratislava.
The automatic parcel sorting line can work completely without the intervention of employees. It scans, weighs and measures each parcel. The system will also prepare photo documentation for the consignment. Subsequently, the line sorts the parcel so that it can reach the final recipient as soon as possible, all at a speed of 2.8 meters per second. The entrance to the warehouse will be provided by 12 gates for trucks and 28 gates for container transport. 99 gates will be available directly for couriers. Thanks to this, the new DPD branch will be able to process up to almost 10,000 parcels per hour.
"This investment will allow us to process a larger number of the consignments transported not only to the domestic market, but also abroad. For our customers in Slovakia, this means that they can use faster transport times and deliver goods to their foreign customers more efficiently,” explains Peter Pavuk.
The new premises also meet the strict standards for emission-free delivery to which DPD has committed itself. The Bratislava depot will have as much as 51 charging stations for courier cars and the other two for the company's customers. Since 2025, DPD wants to deliver consignments in Bratislava exclusively using the electric vehicles. The new infrastructure of storage facilities is ready for this.
