DPD Switzerland achieves record results in a declining and highly competitive market in 2024

Press release 3 April 2025

Last year, DPD Switzerland delivered 24.8 million parcels – more than ever before in the history of the parcel service provider. Revenue also reached a record high, while the market has declined since the pandemic. Growth drivers are the offensive in the out-of-home area, accelerated business-to-consumer trade and investments in sustainable logistics.

Following a sharp increase during the coronavirus pandemic, volumes in the Swiss parcel market have fallen slightly again since 2021. DPD Switzerland defied the trend and posted a record result in 2024. The number of parcels transported has risen from 18.7 to 24.8 million since 2019, with revenue increasing by almost 30 %.

More B2C and DPD Pickup parcelshops

Business-to-consumer (B2C) deliveries have gained in importance in recent years. Five years ago, this division accounted for 48 % of all deliveries. Today, the figure is 81 %. DPD is going with this trend by expanding its Pickup network. Last year’s partnership with foodvenience provider Valora more than doubled the number of DPD Pickup parcelshops. Today, customers can collect, drop off or return their parcels at over 1,000 easily accessible out-of-home locations, which meets a growing need. According to DPD’s E-Shopper Barometer, the need to receive shipments flexibly away from home is steadily increasing. 40 % of all B2C or C2C shipments are now delivered to out-of-home locations. DPD Switzerland will launch its own C2X platform in the course of 2025 to offer private individuals and small businesses a new parcel delivery service.

More than 20 % of the fleet electric

The electrification of DPD delivery vehicles, which started in 2021, is on track: today, 200 vehicles are powered by electricity, which corresponds to 21 % of the entire fleet. These include nine electric trucks that are also used on long and transalpine routes, while four more have already been ordered and are due to go into operation this year. The aim is for all delivery vehicles to be emission-free by 2030.

Tilmann Schultze, CEO of DPD Switzerland:

‘DPD Switzerland is growing in a highly competitive and changing parcel market. Our investments in digitalisation, out-of-home offers, sustainability and our employees are paying off. Now we want to expand into the booming C2X market with new applications, embedded in the Geopost network with over 130,000 pickup points in Europe.’
