GeoPost/DPDgroup reaffirms its ambition in the food segment and will present its full food offer at the upcoming SIRHA edition

News 16 October 2022

In a very dynamic food distribution sector, GeoPost/DPDgroup has shaped a consistent eco-system to offer a higher added value and help our customer to develop their business. From ambient transport dedicated to dry products to temperature-controlled solutions for fresh or frozen food products, the company now offers the variety of services needed by its customers to step forward in their delivery journey in more and more countries.

A blooming food delivery market

In 2021, the entire food industry was expected to grow by +9% per year to reach an estimated revenue of 35bn euros by 2025 (out of restaurant deliveries and in the main European countries), with an increase of +70% of food e-shoppers predicted by 2024. Online food shopping was one of the fastest growing segments in 2021, positively impacted by the sanitary crisis, and 2022 is continuing a slighter but similar trend. It also brought new consumption behaviors, such as the demand for local products, organic products, greater transparency, and a consumer expectation for sustainable trade. At the same time, the food delivery market faces many challenges, such as the cold chain maintenance, regulatory compliance and high service level.

GeoPost/DPDgroup’s temperature-controlled solution on the food industry represented for the group a double-digit growth in the first half of 2022 with +24.8% in volume and +29.5% in revenue, and the company will shortly expand its temperature control offer in new countries such as in Poland, Lithuania, Portugal and Italy.

In this context, GeoPost/DPDgroup’s food offer brings value to more demanding customers

For the first time, GeoPost/DPDgroup and some of its business units will attend the SIRHA event in Lyon (France) early 2023, the unmissable worldwide gathering of food services. This event brings together professionals from the entire industry: hotels, restaurants, catering and tableware, among others.

For GeoPost/DPDgroup, the food segment is a key asset within its ‘Together & Beyond’ strategy. In 2021 the food market generated 462 million euros of revenue for the group, thanks to the rapid development of the company's food delivery platforms: SEUR Frio in Spain, Chronofresh in France, DPD fresh in Belgium on fresh or frozen products, but also all the other DPD entities and BRT on the transport of dry products. The company has also made significant acquisitions and partnerships to further grow in this area: in 2021, GeoPost/DPDgroup acquired epicery, a French food marketplace, and confirmed in 2022 its position in the food e-commerce with the acquisition of Pourdebon.com.

GeoPost/DPDgroup, along with its business units DPD fresh in Belgium, DPD Germany, DPD Netherlands, DPD Poland, DPD Portugal, SEUR and Epicery will be there, in the international area of the event, to meet potential future clients and partners and explore new business opportunities in this most promising segment. The company will cover this extensive exhibition with another dedicated stand for Chronofresh which is a regular at this event.

SIRHA next edition will take place at Eurexpo Lyon from January 19th to 23rd 2023. Visit their website here to have more details on the event and plan your participation.
