Geopost wins Sustainability Strategy Award at the Global Sustainability & ESG Awards 2024

On September 10th 2024, Geopost was recognized by the jury of the Global Sustainability & ESG Awards 2024 for taking bold action to significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Becoming the international reference in sustainable delivery

In February 2023, Geopost became the first global parcel delivery company to have both its near- and long-term science-based targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), with the aim to reach Net Zero by 2040. Aligned with a 1,5°C trajectory, Geopost is committed to reducing absolute GHG emissions from scopes 1, 2 and 3 by 43% by 2030 and by 90% by 2040, compared with a 2020 baseline. This commitment, and associated roadmap, is fundamental to Geopost ramping up its efforts to achieve its climate goals and become recognized as the international reference in sustainable delivery.

At a ceremony held on 10 September 2024 in London, the judges of the Global Sustainability & ESG Awards recognized the concrete and coherent nature of Geopost’s bold 2040 Net Zero strategy, as well as the company’s efforts to achieve such a strong target. In a pool of five strong contenders, Geopost won the Sustainability Strategy Award!

The company believes in a holistic approach to decarbonization based on switching from fossil fuels to alternative energies and transport modes through strong partnerships, innovation and capacity-building within its value chain.

As of July 2024, Geopost can already celebrate some strong achievements: the company has deployed more than 9,300 low emission vehicles and offers fully low emission delivery solutions in 126 European cities. In total, Geopost has reduced its carbon emissions within the SBTi perimeter by 7.8% in absolute terms in the first quarter of 2024, equivalent to a reduction of 9.7% per parcel.

A strategic and innovative approach to sustainability challenges

Geopost has put carbon at the core of its group-level governance. The company has implemented a new Carbon Budget process, which enables all business units of the group to take responsibility for the effective reduction of their CO2 emissions and associated investments, to ensure that they are on track to meet the decarbonization targets set out in the SBTi trajectory.

As Scope 3 emissions are the most difficult to measure and reduce, Geopost has developed internal tools to also better support its customers in their own decarbonization ambitions. In that regard, Geopost launched the Carbon Calculator, an innovative and powerful technology that provides better visibility to its shippers on the carbon emissions of each parcel as it moves through the Geopost network.
