Convenient parcel service for customers: MediaMarktSaturn integrates parcel shops from DPD and GLS in almost all German stores

Press release 19 February 2025

MediaMarktSaturn is expanding its service offering and integrating parcel stores in almost all 400 Media Markt and Saturn stores in Germany. Following a successful pilot project in
around 50 selected stores, customers can now gradually pick up and send parcels from DPD Germany and GLS Germany conveniently at more and more locations. Successful pilot project as a basis: In the test operation, which has been running since mid-2023, customers had the opportunity to collect and send their parcels in over 50 stores. This service has already been used over 160,000 times and has been hailed a success by everyone involved in the project. Due to the positive feedback and high customer demand, the service is gradually being expanded to almost all German stores with the cooperation partners DPD and GLS.

The national roll-out has already started, and a further 30 or so stores will integrate the DPD and GLS parcel services before the end of February - meaning that more than 80 stores in Germany now have access to the customer-friendly service. The further roll-out will take place gradually. Customers can send and collect their parcels either in the online pick-up area or at special pick-up zones in the store. The DPD and GLS store finder makes it easy to find out where the nearest store with a parcel store is located.

Continuous optimization of the service experience

MediaMarktSaturn is in regular contact with its cooperation partners to further optimize the service experience. The national roll-out marks an important step in the further
development of the service offering and underlines MediaMarktSaturn's commitment to offering its customers innovative and customer-friendly solutions that make their everyday lives easier. The partnership with MediaMarktSaturn is also part of the
ambitious goal of DPD and GLS to put a close-knit and nationwide network of jointly usable Out of Home locations into operation. By 2027, the existing infrastructure is to grow to 20,000 shared parcel stores and parcel stations.

Stefan Middendorf, project manager for the national roll-out of the parcel stores at MediaMarktSaturn:

“The successful test operation in over 50 stores has shown that our customers really appreciate the convenient parcel service. With the national rollout, we are now expanding the service to almost all our stores in Germany and have two strong partners at our side in DPD and GLS. We are convinced that this customer-friendly service will make our customers' everyday lives even easier and thus contribute to a better shopping experience.”

Michael Fetten, Out of Home Operations Manager at GLS, explains the objective:

"We want to make sending and receiving parcels, including additional services, as convenient as possible. With MediaMarktSaturn, we have found the perfect partner to expand our Out of Home network. This will enable us to increase the number of parcel drop-off and pick-up points for GLS and DPD customers by a considerable factor within a short space of time. We will soon be able to offer GLS customers 10,000 touchpoints for receiving and sending parcels.”

Jens Haberecht, Group Manager Parcelshop at DPD Germany, emphasizes:

“Close cooperation with retailers is an essential component for us on the way to more parcel drop-off and pick-up points and thus more convenience for shippers and consignees. As a leading electronics retailer with a strong brand, extensive store network and high customer frequency, MediaMarktSaturn is an extremely attractive partner.”
