Pickup, La Poste Group's network of Pickup points, has joined forces with Welco to trial the collection and delivery of Chronopost parcels at private Pickup points
Press release 6 September 2022
Pickup, a subsidiary of La Poste Group and the number one network of Pickup points and lockers in France, is extending its out-of-home services with Welco, the leading platform for parcel collection between neighbours. This collaborative solution, which complements retail outlets, enables online shoppers to collect or drop off their Chronopost parcels at private Pickup points near their homes, at a time of their choosing.
A new delivery option for greater flexibility
In its constant search for new solutions to meet the growing demands of online shoppers and changing consumption patterns, Pickup has been trialling delivery to private Pickup points for the past six months, in partnership with Welco. This original and innovative service for last-meter delivery refers to people (called ‘Welcoeurs’) who are willing to take delivery of parcels throughout the day, in total security. Students, retirees, parents at home, teleworkers, freelancers or job seekers... More than 50,000 Welcoeurs have already joined the initiative, covering more than 500 towns and cities across France, in urban and rural areas. This option, available only to online shoppers who have chosen delivery with Chronopost, could also be extended to other carriers.
Proximity as a cornerstone of customer satisfaction
Already having the largest number of collection points in France, Pickup continues to strengthen its network of 16,000 Pickup points and 700 lockers, thanks to the Welco community of Pickup points, in order to offer its services as close as possible to customers in areas where there are few shops, always with the promise of optimal service quality.
After an initial conclusive trial period with very positive customer satisfaction ratings, this trial will be more widely rolled out by the end of the year, in nearly 20 towns across France (including Villeurbanne, Saumur and Le Mans).
A model that is attracting more and more e-commerce customers
Since the creation of Welco in 2018, over 270,000 parcels have been received by Welcoeurs. This success is due to the proximity, user-friendliness and flexibility offered to online shoppers by this alternative parcel collection and delivery service. In fact, the private Pickup points are often available over even more extended opening hours than traditional Pickup points, a convenience for working people who have no choice but to pick up their parcels outside working hours.
“We know that the loyalty of e-commerce customers also depends on the satisfaction of the delivery service,”
explains Romain Barraud, co-founder of Welco.
A growing success in the age of the collaborative economy
For each parcel received, Welcoeurs are paid by the platform. All they have to do is register by downloading the Welco app or visiting www.welco.io, and enter their availability. Once the service has been launched, it can provide them with an additional income of up to €250/month, by making use of the space available in their home. They are then free to use this income to make ends meet, or to donate it to a charity.
But beyond the financial considerations, this new model is valued because it also fosters social ties, by giving users the opportunity to meet new people in their neighbourhood who are not afraid to help and with whom they can exchange ideas.
“For more than 20 years, Pickup has been implementing solutions to simplify the lives of its customers by being as close to their homes as possible. Offering our services to private relays was the next logical step! We are delighted with this partnership with Welco, which enables us to complete our network in strategic areas and to adopt a collaborative approach, always in a hyperproximate manner.”
says Maxime d'Hauteville, Chairman of Pickup
