Given the emergency situation that is being experienced in La Palma after the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano more than two months ago, and which continues to cause numerous damages to homes, business losses and farmland, SEUR and SEUR Foundation join the wave of solidarity through a donation of more than € 80,000 to the NGOs Red Cross and Caritas to promote the projects that are being deployed on the island.
Through an initiative launched last Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the company donated 5 cts. € for each shipment made on those days, in which more volume of packages are moved per year. In addition, the SEUR Foundation will make a direct donation of 5,000 euros, in addition to the amount contributed by SEUR Canarias and the support that the company's employees have shown with their individual donations.
The money raised will go to projects chosen by SEUR from both NGOs. Red Cross, one of the recipients of this donation, will use the money for projects focused on carrying out leisure activities for children and young people affected by the eruption, as well as managing snacks for these groups. Its director of Fundraising and Alliances with Companies, Jaime Gregori, highlights that
“The collaboration of SEUR and the SEUR Foundation in this initiative will allow to reinforce the attention that the Red Cross is providing. Projects such as the one presented here allow us to generate spaces for collaboration with the private sector, managing to join forces to advance together in helping people affected by this catastrophe. We go further working together,”.
The funds earmarked for Cáritas will be invested in the relocation of the citizens and the refurbishment of homes. Its president, Manuel Bretón, warmly appreciates
“This gesture of solidarity by SEUR with the victims of the island of La Palma, which reinforces the response that Cáritas Diocesana de Tenerife has been giving since the first hours of the eruption to accompany the most vulnerable families. This collaboration adds important efforts in favor of the victims of this natural catastrophe, who will need a long-term response to guarantee the recovery of their livelihoods and the reconstruction of their lives. In this objective, we hope to continue counting on the support of SEUR ”.
For his part, David Sastre, Chief Customer Officer at SEUR,
“It is very important for us to be present at times when society needs us, as we have already demonstrated during the toughest months of the pandemic. With this action we want to help as much as possible in such an exceptional situation and one that has moved us all by its harshness. With the collaboration of our clients we have been able to reach this significant figure with which we hope the conditions of the population that is suffering from this crisis can be improved”.
With La Palma from the beginning
In addition to this special action, the SEUR Foundation has been sending solidarity shipments to help La Palma since the first week of the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja. Through their solidarity logistics, they have sent to the island more than half a ton of all kinds of necessary products, such as food and accessories for animals, protection and hygiene items, clothing, cleaning products and food. Also school supplies, FPP2 masks to protect against the ash in the air, as well as articles for babies and kitchen utensils.
“The mission of SEUR Foundation since its creation is to be at the side of those most in need, putting all our resources at their disposal, mainly solidarity logistics, to help in each situation. And, of course, we also had to do our bit in the La Palma volcano crisis, something that we will continue to do as long as it is necessary”,
says Ramón Mayo, president of SEUR Foundation.
Aid that crosses borders
Other DPDgroup business units have joined this solidarity initiative such as DPD France, which has donated 1 cts. € for each shipment made during Black Friday and Cyber Monday for a total of 12,000 euros. An action with which we show that solidarity is one of the values on which the group is based.
