SEUR focuses on circular economy through the new Buy Back service

Press release 23 October 2023

  • The company, in collaboration with Recommerce, launches this pilot project with the aim of promoting the circular economy through the reconditioning of electronic devices
  • This pioneer service helps to reuse mobile phones, tablets or laptops and reduce carbon footprint

SEUR, the leading express delivery company in Spain, is once again breaking new ground to provide a better experience for its customers. In this case, the company is collaborating with the French company Recommerce in the Buy Back project, a pilot service that facilitates the reuse of electronic devices through their sale and reconditioning.

This service was first launched in France by Chronopost, one of the European companies of the Geopost group, as part of the HelloDPD initiative. Buy Back allows online shoppers to make the most of electronic devices they no longer use, with just a few clicks through our seur.com website, in a very user-friendly process. In this sense, through its collaboration with Recommerce, SEUR aims to contribute to the protection of the environment and reduce the carbon footprint, as it promotes the circular economy through the reuse of second-hand electronic devices.

Karen Thouret, Head of E-commerce, Digital and Customer Experience at SEUR, notes that

"the deployment of this service adapts to new consumer habits in Spain, sensitized to social and environmental challenges, influenced by more responsible and sustainable products. Consumers have changed their preferences, making more conscious decisions. Circular economy and purchasing decisions are two concepts that are closely linked lately; therefore, SEUR wants to facilitate disruptive solutions that respond to the challenge of the circular economy, by offering a simple way to resell, in a few clicks, mobile, tablet and laptop".

Solène Gueirard, Country Manager Spain Recommerce states that

"The first step of the circular economy to give a second life to technological equipment is to take it back from consumers who have no further use for it, in exchange for the corresponding value. In fact, according to our market research conducted with Kantar, 57% of Spanish consumers say they keep their old terminal in case of need, which shows the great potential of such an offer for their purchasing power and the environment.

Through this project with SEUR, a carrier with a strong local presence, we can get closer to Spanish consumers by offering them a simple and accessible repurchase solution thanks to SEUR's numerous collection points."

Spanish regular e-shoppers buy more technology online and sell products they don't need more frequently

According to data from Geopost's latest E-shopper barometer, 35% of Spanish online shoppers are buying gadgets and technology products online, 6 points higher than in the previous study. These figures support the launch of Buy Back, a service that responds to the growing consumer demand for this type of product. The study also highlights that 67% of regular e-shoppers sell products in good condition, which also supports the convenience of circular economy solutions such as Buy Back.
