Press release 28 December 2021

  • Thanks to the collection of more than 35 tons of bottle caps, 5,894 euros have been raised, which will help Lola to have a tricycle and an eye-reader.

  • Since its launch in 2011, the "Caps for a New Life" project has collected more than 7,000 tons of caps and raised more than €1,300,000.

Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the "Caps for a new life" Project, Fundación SEUR has donated 5,894 euros to Lola, a 4-year-old girl from Almonte (Huelva) who suffers from a WDR45 gene mutation, a rare disease that affects her nervous system. Thanks to the collection of more than 35 tons of plastic caps, Lola will be able to have a tricycle and an eye-reader which will enable her to exercise her mobility and to communicate, thus improving significantly her quality of life.

The ceremony took place at SEUR Huelva and was attended by Lola and some of her closest relatives, as well as by Eva Álvarez, Manager of SEUR Huelva; Manuel Joaquín Carbajo Domínguez, 1st Deputy Mayor of Vilarrasa, and José Manual García, Coordinator of Fundación SEUR.

Thus, Lola becomes the 183rd beneficiary of Fundación SEUR's star project which, since its launching in 2011, has raised 1,300,000 euros and has managed to recycle more than 7,328 tons of bottle caps, also saving 9,198 tons of CO2. The purpose of the project is to facilitate access to medical or orthopedic treatments not covered by Social Security for children with serious illnesses.

According to Ramón Mayo, President of Fundación SEUR,

"We cannot express in words how happy we are to be able to help these children who, even with their limitations, are capable of giving us the best version of themselves". Along the same lines, he adds: "This project reaches its tenth anniversary, but we continue with the same desire and determination to help the neediest children. Our goal is to be a reference for our closest communities, we are part of society and our responsibility is to help as much as we can".
