On September 10, 2024, we proudly received recognition from the jury of the Global Sustainability & ESG Awards for our proactive approach to significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
As the first global parcel delivery company to have both its near- and long-term Net Zero trajectory validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), we are committed to achieving this goal by 2040. Our company aims to reduce absolute GHG emissions by 43% by 2030 and by 90% by 2040, using 2020 as a baseline. This ambitious roadmap not only underscores our dedication to sustainability but also positions us as a reference in sustainable delivery practices.
Our holistic approach to decarbonisation includes transitioning from fossil fuels to alternative energies while enhancing transport modes through innovative partnerships and capacity-building. By mid-2024, we had successfully deployed over 9,300 alternative fleet vehicles, offering low-emmisoin delivery solutions in 126 European cities. Furthermore, we have made notable strides, achieving a 7.8% reduction in carbon emissions in the first quarter of 2024. To foster accountability, we've even introduced a Carbon Budget process and developed a Carbon Calculator, allowing customers to track the carbon emissions of their parcels, thereby supporting their decarbonization efforts as well.
